The Mosaic Life

How it all began...

Posted by naomi     17 May 2013, 10:25:59

Treading these fashion waters, I might say it began for me 10 years ago.   I regard my design as a natural extension of my various interests since early childhood, such as music and painting.  And dreaming.  My first bags were made out of recycled paper, dedicated to my wife.  Surprised by the kind comments and warm reception of my work in the community, I pressed on and am still pressing on, with great joy and personal fulfilment.

This gorgeous designer handbag is available for sale through Mosaic World Designs.

This gorgeous handbag is crafted of wood and silk and is currently on display in the Amsterdam Museum of Handbags and Purses.

DESIGNER PROFILE: DANIEL HABJANIC

Posted by naomi     12 May 2013, 05:20:47

Daniel Habjanic is a renowned designer of handbags.  His bags are on display in The Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam.  We are honoured to offer his amazing handbags through Mosaic World Designs.  I had the great pleasure of interviewing Daniel Habjanic.

How long have you been designing handbags?  When did you first discover this passion?

My family and I own a small toy shop in Zagreb.  Ten years ago, it was a hot, boring summer and I tried to make paper bags for packaging gifts.  At first, I made very simple paper bags with paper applique on the front.  When my wife saw them, she asked me if I could make a small blue handbag made of woven paper.  That was the real beginning of my designing handbags.

Not long after that, I realized that eco handbags are made in this way.  I thought, this can’t be my future and serious work because I need more than just art.  It was then that I learned to sew and work with leather.

Could you tell me more about the handbags that you created out of paper?

I created an eco handbag line.  I have sold a few of these handbags, and others I have kept and use for exhibitions.  It takes 15 - 20 days to make one paper handbag.  Each thread is handwoven.  I express my unique creativity through paper, metal and wood.

Is there anything that influences your style?

I love rock music.  I am not limited to one kind ( from New wave in the 80’s, Simple Minds, Clash, U2, Cult to Massive Attack, Yello and jazz music).   I always listen to music when I work.  I can’t imagine and create without music.  All of my inspiration comes from music.

Should Groomsmen ties match Bridesmaids?

Posted by lafleur     02 May 2013, 03:43:37

Not necessarily. This is your wedding.  Your wedding should be a natural expression of you, as a unique couple.  Personally, I think it looks stunning when the groomsmens ties match the bridesmaids dresses… it gives the party a unified, timeless look.

We love this shot from mintandsage.com

Lately it has become quite popular for bridesmaids dresses to coordinate or compliment each other without matching.    We really love how this is showcased on www.weddingchicks.com.  Isn’t this gorgeous?

On the other end of the spectrum, there is something to be said for expressing one's own personal style.  We love this fun, mismatched look from onewed.com
